Welcome to New Game+

A set of rules for exploring the Eos game-world.

New Game+ is a pen & paper, tabletop role-playing game with rules that are meant to cover a variety of gaming styles. With the aid of stats, skills, gear & rules — the groundwork for most of the things your group would like to do should be fairly predictable based on their decisions. With that said, there is still loads of room for the GM to make narrative based decisions where rules would either be too unwieldy or restrictive for the group.

The intent is to create a game that focuses on enjoyability, playability, balance, & realism (which don’t always play nice together).

The reason the website is talesandtactics is because: while the combat system is a highly tactical, where often your choice of how to engage combat can be more impactful than the dice, the story should always come first.

This project is a work in progress. It is playable as is. It is planned to be expanded as I find time to brainstorm, balance, test & finally add more content. Many skills will likely have their mechanics replaced with “better feeling” mechanics in the future.

These rules are meant to feel broken.

Often a skill, ability, spell, or other aspect will have mechanics that break the rules. Such as the bonuses granted to each of the playable races. Even core rules can be tweaked or entirely ignored by some special rule under one of these things. It is a feature, not a bug.

Juggling these rules might seem daunting at times. But it lends to more imaginative game-play for those that delve deep into the system. The deeper their knowledge of the system, the more they can exploit it for tactical gain in combat. Also, it feels really cool to ignore cover rules with a 2-handed weapon when that tank is covering their squishy teammate… or to “clutch” a crossbow attack at an enemy on someone else’s turn.

If a “meta” build becomes apparent it might get a “nerf”, or some other build might get a buff. The system is intended to have dials built into it’s foundation. This foundation allows for specific aspects to be turned up or down as needed. The goal is to have a balance with all the viable builds within this system — but still making each build feel “overpowered” when they are within their niche.

The foundation of combat was created from a creature fighting another, in a boxing ring, with one hand tied behind their backs. Creature sizes, gear, stats, skills, (I hope to write “magic” here soon), & abilities each nudge outcomes in a logical direction to mirror reality.

Every build is supposed to be powerful in its own way. Even the most mundane builds should shine at some point in any group of adventurers. Every character at your table is supposed to be awesome!

Creativity is your greatest ally.
